Justin Singleton on Whitlow's Security Specialists

Called for an estimate. Then they changed the labor rate when I wanted to use better locks than the brands they could sell me. They also suddenly wanted more specifics on my location, allegedly because they had recently "shrunk their service area.". Except they knew it was Milwaukee already, and they cover way further than that.

Best,

Justin Singleton

After dealing w/2 other "locksmiths" who damaged my main entry door lock, I went to Whitlow. Upon explaining the situation, Luke said he had a lockset in stock, quoted me a price, and informed me they were scheduling 1-2 weeks out. He put me on the schedule and said he would call if something opened up. That same afternoon, (within an hour?) Luke called to say that he had a tech who finished a job early and is available if it worked for me.
Kyle, the tech, arrived promptly & tried to repair my existing lock but it needed to be replaced. Kyle and Luke were both friendly and professional and, in my opinion, went above and beyond to get this installed for me in a timely fashion! I am more than pleased with their customer service and highly recommend Whitlow Security Specialists, West Allis.

I have gone to Whitlows for 40 years when I need a key or locksmith services. Never has a bad key cut, never had an "OMG" type problem of any sort. If I spend two more dollars here than at another locksmith, that's a two-dollar insurance policy against annoyance.

Today's journey to Whitlows was because the last working fob I had for my 2008 Toyota Highlander died. The lock and unlock switches are physically broken away from the board. This car is old enough to drink legally in many countries, so no, I'm not looking to spend a fortune to get a couple replacements.

Amazon 2-pack of new aftermarket remote fobs for my car: $16 plus tax. Whitlows quote for programming: $40 for first unit + 10 for second unit.

All in price for 2 new working fobs: $66 plus tax.

Just got this done - 20 minutes and less than $53 later, Whitlows is done, I can lock and unlock my car again, and everything is right with my world (for small values of right.) The only pain in this process is a bleeding fingernail from having to put these things on my keyring.

Let's contrast that to what a dealer quoted me on the phone:

Toyota dealer quote:
$156 per unit for the hardware alone. $189 to program, IF THINGS GO SMOOTHLY - and if they don't go smoothly, add 2 to 2.5 hours of labor onto that because they claim that they would have to do whatever magic programmy-thing they would do to give the system a "new identity".

The dealer says they NEED my old fobs to be working. They also say they need to order the replacements, and it'll be a week before they have them.

156 + 156 + 189 = OVER $500. Plus a week's wait and no guarantee that the "floor" price quoted would be the actual price at the end. Just to have two functioning fobs for an 18-year old vehicle.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHaaa, no.

I cannot promise you that your fobs will be as inexpensive to purchase as mine were on Amazon, nor that Whitlows will charge you exactly the same money I was charged. Some fobs will cost more to buy, no doubt some will cost more to program. What I can promise you is that if you need a fob and you go to a dealer, your wallet will be sexually assaulted, to put it politely.

Even if the fobs both die in a year, that would have to happen for 8 straight years before going to the dealer would make sense. Yay Whitlows! Thank you.

Great, no fuss place to get keys! I came in just needing a car key copied for a toyota camry after losing one of them. Kyle said it would be $25 to cut it based on factory specifications, $8 just to do a physical copy (but not very likely to work). I had the key I wanted to replace it with already so I didn't want to risk it not working. Kyle took the time to cut a dummy key, figured out what adjustments to make after it didn't quite work in the door and ignititon, cut another dummy that did work properly, and then cut my key that worked perfectly. I thought their website said they can cut based on VIN, but he said they don't have the ability to do so. This actually was BETTER than cutting with the VIN because he made sure it turned the door locks correctly on an old car. He even gave me the dummy to keep to unlock the doors if we ever get locked out. Thanks for a great experience!

My first time here, picking up a fob/key for my Subaru Outback. Tom, Locksmith, did the tech work and he was super nice, professional and prompt. He cut my key, then programmed it -everything was done in 20 minutes -thats without an appointment folks. It all went great.
